You may have seen that Indeed are now emailing with ideas on how to “optimise” your advert. Their advice in the email today was to increase your daily spend from £30 to £50.
With the average recruitment process taking 90 days (depending on where your garage is/size/reputation etc) , that is an extra £1,800 on one recruitment!
This spend could be worth every penny, if you know what you are doing.
If you choose to stick to £30 as a daily spend on Indeed- there is a chance that your competitors will increase their daily spend to £50 which weakens the power of your £30. So is your £2,700 already spent on the recruitment process devalued?
The recruitment process is constantly evolving, what I did for clients last month will be different to what I do for this month, because we have to pay attention and adapt!
One thing that I keep repeating, and still stands true – is make sure you have a personalised job advert! There is no good in trying to recruit with an advert that you got from a mate.
Why would you spend so many hours on building your garage, to just advertise it with someone else’s advert? Are you going to spend £50 a day pushing something that says nothing useful?
If you haven’t put effort into your job advert, why would someone put effort into the job?
It is clear as water to see who has put effort into their advert. A perfectly good Technician could look at your advert (which has cost you if they click on it) and looked at what you wrote, and thought “not interested” and just keeps scrolling by. Then, your chance for recruiting that technician has passed.
Or worst – you have used your mate’s job advert – and it works. You may think that is ideal, job done – well no. It is then very likely that you are going to be used for leverage to get a higher pay, or get ghosted, or the worst one is when they come and work for you and then you realise that they are a terrible match for the business and then you are wondering how to get rid of them..and have to start all over again.
Please reflect on how much time you are spending on your recruitment process. It is one of the most important business decisions that you will ever make. So many garages are stuck because they are not fully staffed, or have recruited the wrong people. Get it right and you will soon be sat on a beach sipping a cocktail, or racing around on your bikes. Do a half-hearted job and you will feel stressed and frustrated…and it will cost more than £50 a day to fix.
I know that you are busy, tired and trying your best. You can’t be expected to know how to master recruitment in this situation, but that is why I am here. I know first-hand the pain that you are going through, and I am working with garages up and down the Country.
